Purpose
Predict the impact point of a
ball on an inclined board with our understanding of projectile motion.
Process
1. Set up the apparatus as the lab guide shown.
2. After
the apparatus is set, launch the ball from the top of the track and collect the
data when the ball falls on the ground. This step should be repeated to make
sure the data is convincing.
3. Then
set an incline which is 49º ±
1º to the ground.
4. Launch the ball
again to get the point where the ball falls on the incline. Repeat this step to
make sure the data is convincing.
Analyze
From the second step we can
derive the horizontal voltage of the ball with the height H of the table and
the distance X.
From the data we get from step
we can get the
When the ball hit the
incline,
So we can finally derive the Distance
the ball hit at the incline. Compare to the actual distance and we can find its
error is , which is quite small.
Conclusion
The error may be caused by
friction and air resistance, which we did not take into consideration when we
calculate the theory value.
In this lab we learned how to
predict the impact point of a ball on an inclined board. We can use the formula
below to analyze it.
